Birthday Party Anyone???

I love decorating cakes! I love the smell as they are baking in the oven & the way the frosting fluffs up while it's being whipped to perfection in my mixer. I love watching the cakes take shape under my carving knife & magically become pieces of edible art. I love the look on my customers faces when I deliver them & I love imagining all the fun they have at the party...and on occasion I actually get to do a cake for my friends & am invited to enjoy the festivities with them. My close friends, Kristy & Jake, have an ADORABLE little girl, Cora, who just turned one & these are pictures of her enjoying her cake :) I absolutely LOVE them & hope you do too...

It was a very special treat for me to be able to enjoy the day with them...I look forward to many more moments like these.

If you celebrate lifes events you will have a life worth celebrating!

That is my motto! It's on my business cards & is a rule I try to live by...

This week is a cake free week for me because I am throwing a baby shower for a very dear friend of mine & it's going to be at my house so...instead of working on cakes I'm going to be working on getting my house set up to hold up to 15 people (it's a small house, this could be interesting to see). I'll also be gathering things up to decorate with - it's going to be fairly simple decorations, I'm getting flowers from the local flower shop, I've ordered green Hydrangeas & pink Lillies & I'll put them in clear glass vases with brown bows. Other than that I really am only using different cake plates & tiered cake stands with the cupcakes as decoration. I was sitting with my cup of coffee thinking about all of this & realized I have a few weeks worth of pictures I haven't posted yet...don't ask my how my thought process went from flowers & baby shower cupcakes to my pictures waiting to be uploaded from the camera, that's just me :)

These first two are from Easter weekend...I have another one from that weekend but I forgot my camera. That photo is on my mom's camera so as soon as I get that from her it'll be on here :)

A bass fish cake & an old fashioned fishing creele ordered for a son who loves to fish.
The board is decorated w/ strips of fondant & air brushed then smudged to look like an old wooden pier. The fish was hand carved from chocolate cake & air brushed to give it that "just pulled from the water" look. Fish fins are made of gumpaste & air brushed as well. The fishing creele is hand carved from vanilla cake with dark chocolate fondant straps & detail. This one was almost a little gross because I kept expecting it to smell like the lake... :)

A 40th anniversary party on Easter Sunday. This cake is beautifully simple & elegant. All white butter cream with red hand made flowers & topper to match gives it just the right amount of color. The simple design & monogram in the middle finish it off perfectly. Congratulations on 40 years together!!!

Happy Birthday!!!
There's a new Sheriff in town so you all better look out :) LOL!!! A hand sculpted gumpaste cowboy hat & sheriff badge top a chocoalte buttercream & crushed oreo covered chocolate cake that sits on a buttercream bandana covered vanilla cake. The birthday boy got a chocolate badge covered in yellow buttercream to demolish on his big day :)

More to come later...I'll get the pics from my moms camera & will post pics of the baby shower too :)

Until then...take a moment to celebrate your life!!!!

Spring break & cakes...

This past week was Spring Break & we started it off right...with a nice fresh coating of snow & some ice :(  What???? Can't believe that!!! Once the snow cleared I was able to enjoy some time w/ my awesome niece, Ella. She came to our house on Monday afternoon for a sleep over. We played games, watched cartoons (she is only 7 afterall), did our nails, played in makeup, went to the park & had a small pizza party with David on his lunch break (pizza is one of her fav foods) Sigh...it was so much fun!!!

Unfortunately play time had to stop so I could get going on some cakes...they were due on Friday this week so that has left my Saturday free. That doesn't happen very often so I am taking full advantage of it :) Hope you like them...

Pooch-Friendly Recipe...

Hello to all my blogger friends!!! I usually get on here to post cake pics & (if I have time) share a little bit about what's been going on in our world but today is a little different. I am here to share with you a super fun, furry friend friendly, recipe I found while enjoying my new Cake Central Magazine.

Many of you, like myself, have a pet or pets that are just like members of the family. Here is my little Millie...isn't she just the cutest???

Summer 2009

Try this out next time you want to celebrate a pets birthday or just to give them a treat :) Happy baking!!!!!!!

Pooch-Friendly Peanut Butter Carrot Cake:
1 Cup Flour
1 tsp Vanilla
1/3 Cup Honey
1 Egg
1 tsp Baking Soda
1/4 Cup Sugar Free Peanut Butter
1/4 Cup Vegetable Oil
1 Cup Shredded Carrots
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F & greese pan. Thoroughly mix ingredients together, then scoop into cupcake or cake pan. Bake 20-30 minutes.
*** Cake will be denser than your average "human" cake

For Frosting:
12 oz Fat - Free Cream Cheese
3 tsp Honey
Mix until light & fluffy & spread thin layer over your cake or cupcakes.

Your dog will go crazy for this!!! I'll post my regular cake pics in a few days :) Until then....

Hello to all my blog friends! Starting January 3rd (& going on into the beginning of February) it turned into a winter wonder land around here (the snow hasn't completely melted in some spots). Since we are not used to this kind of weather things shut down for a couple of days & we were able to gather w/ friends & family to have a snow day party...it was lots of fun!!!

The guys took turns being pulled behind the 4-wheeler on various items. David (my hubby) chose a small sled for his fun :)

There he goes!!!! hahahahaha!!! Boys will be boys ;)
